Terms of Service — Friends Ahoy

Terms of Service

The ground rules for being part of Friends Ahoy. Written in plain language, because you shouldn't need a law degree to know what you're agreeing to.

Friends Ahoy is a platonic friendship platform for adults 18+. Be kind, be honest, keep things platonic, and help us protect the space. We're a small team building something new. These terms lay out what that means in practice.

What Friends Ahoy Is

Friends Ahoy is a platonic friendship platform operated by Friends Ahoy LLC. We provide a website with resources, a Connection Profile quiz, community events (Gatherings), and tools designed to help adults build meaningful friendships.

We are not a dating service, a social media platform, a therapy or counseling service, or a clinical assessment tool. If you're looking for any of those things, Friends Ahoy isn't the right fit, and we'll gladly point you toward resources that are.

🧭 Who Can Use Friends Ahoy

You must be 18 years or older to use Friends Ahoy, create a Connection Profile, or attend a Gathering. By using our site, you confirm that you meet this age requirement.

We reserve the right to remove anyone from the community who misrepresents their age. If you believe a user is under 18, please email connect@friendsahoy.com.

👤 Your Information and Your Data

When you submit a Connection Profile or sign up for updates, you agree to provide accurate information about yourself. Misrepresenting who you are, including your name, age, or intentions, is grounds for removal from the community.

Friends Ahoy does not require accounts or passwords at this time. The information you share with us (your email, your Connection Profile responses, your Crew Role, and any event RSVPs) is stored and handled according to our Privacy Policy. Read it. If something is unclear, ask us.

🧩 The Connection Profile & Crew Roles

The Connection Profile and Crew Role system are self-reflection tools designed for friendship matching. They help you understand how you tend to connect and find people who fit that rhythm.

They are not psychological assessments, clinical diagnoses, or therapeutic instruments. The system draws on research from similarity-attraction theory, attachment theory, Dunbar's relationship model, and Self-Determination Theory, but it is not a substitute for professional mental health support.

If what you're experiencing needs more than a friendship tool can offer, please see our Resources page or talk to a licensed professional.

🤝 Community Behavior

By using Friends Ahoy, you agree to treat every person with respect and kindness, keep all interactions platonic, respect other people's boundaries and privacy, not share other people's personal stories outside of Friends Ahoy, and not engage in harassment, discrimination, or bullying of any kind.

We reserve the right to remove anyone who violates these standards. Full details, including what happens when someone crosses a line, are in our Community Guidelines.

🏝️ Gatherings & In-Person Events

Gatherings are voluntary community events. By attending, you understand that Friends Ahoy facilitates the space but does not guarantee any specific outcome. Connection is a practice, not a guarantee.

You are responsible for your own safety when meeting new people. Friends Ahoy is not liable for interactions that occur between attendees outside of our events. We strongly encourage meeting in public spaces, informing a trusted person of your plans, and trusting your instincts.

Intellectual Property

The Friends Ahoy name and logo, our website content, the 5 Pillars of Connection Health framework, the Crew Role system, the Connection Profile quiz, and all original materials are the intellectual property of Friends Ahoy LLC.

You may share your personal Crew Role results and link to our site. In fact, please do. You may not reproduce, repackage, or distribute our frameworks, quiz questions, or proprietary content without written permission.

📧 Email Communications

If you sign up for our newsletter or submit a Connection Profile with email opt-in, you agree to receive occasional emails from us. These may include community updates, event invitations, and content we think you'll find useful. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.

⚖️ Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Friends Ahoy LLC is not liable for interactions between users or event attendees, outcomes from using the Connection Profile, emotional distress related to social experiences, actions taken by third parties, or data breaches caused by third-party services beyond our reasonable control.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of Friends Ahoy is limited to the amount you have paid us. Since Friends Ahoy is currently free to use, that amount is $0.

📋 Disclaimer

Friends Ahoy is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do our best, but we're a small team building something new. Features may change, events may shift, and occasional bugs happen.

🔄 Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as Friends Ahoy evolves. When we make material changes, we'll post the updated terms here and adjust the "Last updated" date below. For significant changes, we'll also notify email subscribers. Continued use of Friends Ahoy after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

🏛️ Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States. Any disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Colorado.

🔚 If You Want to Leave

You can stop using Friends Ahoy at any time. Because Friends Ahoy doesn't require accounts, "leaving" simply means ending your use of the site and, if you'd like, requesting that we delete the information you've shared with us (Connection Profile responses, email address, event RSVPs).

To request data deletion, email connect@friendsahoy.com and we'll handle it within 30 days, per our Privacy Policy. You can also unsubscribe from any email with the link at the bottom. That alone removes you from our mailing list without deleting your Connection Profile, if you'd rather keep your Crew Role on file.

No hard feelings either way. If Friends Ahoy wasn't the right fit, we hope you find the community you're looking for.
