It has to be built.
This Isn’t a Personal Failure
Friendships are declining. Community structures are weakening. We scroll more but connect less. None of that is because people stopped caring about each other. We move more, work more, and live further from the people we grew up around. We have more ways to reach each other than we’ve ever had, and less time actually spent together.
And most of us were never taught how to do this. Nobody sits you down and explains how to make friends as an adult, or how to build a community once you need one.

We break it into five.
Most advice treats connection as one problem with one fix. Join a group. Reach out more. But if what’s thin is Depth, another group won’t help. If what’s thin is Fit, more activity in the wrong room just wears you out.
So the quiz asks more than whether you’re lonely. It looks at five parts of connection, pulled from loneliness research and from the conversations that started Friends Ahoy. We kept the ones you can actually do something about. It’s our own framework, not a scientific test. But it answers a better question than how connected you are. It tells you which part is running thin.
Emotional Closeness
Depth"Is there anyone who knows the real me?"
Having someone who stays when the answer to "how are you?" is honest, not just "fine."
Social Integration
Regularity"Do I have a rhythm of showing up?"
Same people, on a schedule. The standing coffee, the Tuesday night crew, the rhythm a week without one is missing.
Identity & Belonging
Fit"Is there a place where I belong as I am?"
A room where you don't have to translate yourself. Where your weird specific things get met with "me too."
Purpose & Contribution
Mattering"Would anyone miss me if I stopped showing up?"
The felt sense that you're significant to people. Someone counts on you. Your specific absence would change something.
Digital Balance
Mediation"Is my tech serving connection or replacing it?"
Using your phone to make plans, not to replace the people in them. The pillar that runs across all the others.
Hey,
Like many others over the last few years, I've felt a compounding level of stress and anxiety caused by a lack of community, and a good amount of loneliness in my own life. I was starting to realize how rare and difficult it had become to have a valuable conversation, and how little I felt I belonged anywhere.
After talking to more people about it, I realized this was extremely common. I kept coming face to face with people who said they didn't have anyone they could really talk to, and didn't know how to change that.
Connection doesn't just happen anymore. It has to be built.
I'm not an expert on any of this. I'm just a guy looking for connection who thinks he can make a difference by building something that helps other people do the same.
